| What do you do to keep your dog flea and tick free during the spring and summer? | | I give my dog a bath with a Flea and tick shampoo that is supposed to help, but we have so many ticks out here that I am still constantly checking him and pulling ticks off of him. I don't want him to get hurt or get lyme disease or anything like that, so I now ask all of you dog owners out there, What do you do for your dogs? Do you use anything else to help with this problem? Any home remedies that you have tried? I am open to any suggestions about right now. lol | |
| | Help!! Fleas keep coming back no matter what!! | | Hi everyone. I need some suggestions please! I have 12 dogs, 7 which are puppies and are getting ready to go to new homes. My problem is fleas. The yard has been sprayed and I have put Frontline on my adult dogs, and bathe the puppies in puppy flea and tick shampoo because the puppies are too young for the Frontline. The fleas keep coming back, and someone told me to sprinkle brewer's yeast on their food and that helps keep them off. One problem there. The brewer's yeast upset the stomach of one of the puppies so I quit putting that on their food because one can imagine the mess I was having to clean up. We feed all of our dogs puppy food out of one pan because it is rather difficult to keep the adult dogs out of the puppy food and vice versa. Can anyone please give me more suggestions as what to try next in addition to the bathing, Frontline, and spraying the yard? Someone else had suggested sprinkling garlic powder on their food instead of brewer's yeast, but I am afraid that once again the same puppy will have an upset stomach. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions. | |

| Be Careful When Applying Flea And Tick Medication! | | When applying your dogs' monthly flea and tick medication, you are supposed to put it behind their necks where they can't reach it. Well, just recently a friend of mine was giving his dog her medicine when some of it dripped down the side of her neck. She licked it up and started convulsing. She had to go to the vet to get an IV treatment to flush the medicine out of her system. These medications are safe for your dogs when applied correctly, but can be harmful if your dog ingests them. So be extra careful each month when giving your dog the medicine! Make sure the medicine stays where it's supposed to and doesn't dribble down where your dog could lick it up.Just thought I'd pass along this warning since it was a very traumatic experience for my friend! Have you ever had a similar experience with any type of dog medication? | |
| | A warning about flea and tick treatments | | I don't know if you've used these treatments for fleas and ticks on your pets, but thought I would post it just in case. These products are killing peoples pets, but are still available in stores. I had some in my 'arsenal' of products, but got rid of them. Check the list, and peoples sad stories at: www.hartzvictims.org/ | |

| | What are you useing for flea and tick protection this year? | | Every year we protect our dog from fleas and ticks with a topical product that goes on her back once a month over the flea and tick season. We used to go to the vet and pay over $100 for my dog's flea and tick medication, but last year we just did not have the money, due to haveing just bought a house, so I tried the stuff at the pet store. I promised to protect her from flea and ticks but also from mosquitos, I had never seen that before. Well it works great. The first time I used it both my animals alreayd had fleas (I have a cat too) and they were gone within a couple days of useing the medication. I would reccomend this product to any pet owner, it works great and can save you so much money. It was only like $15 for a three month supply for my 60 lb dog. If you use a differnt product please tell me about it, does it work, it is costly, how do you feel about it? | |

| | do you have ticks in your area? | | HI guys, I live in south central Oklahoma and now that the weather has gotten so much warmer the ticks are coming out.
If some of you don't understand the word ticks, they are brown or off color parasites that attach themselves to an animal and humans too.
I walk my dogs every day in some heavily covered grassy areas which might have to change but I have been barraged with a bunch of ticks.
I pulled three out of my head two days ago.
I have put flea and tick collars on my dogs and cats but I have to find a way to keep them off me.
I have sprinkled cedar chips around and inside the house for the possible flea infestation we get here too.
Do you all have any remedies on how to keep ticks off us as humans or even our animals?
Please give me your thoughts.
God bless you all,
