Discussions on Dog Health Care
How to tell if your dog is sick?
We have a dog and a cat in our home. They are treated like as a family, and as a member of the family we must secure their safety and of course health. We should be able to tell if our dogs need any medical attention. If you know your pets upclose you'll notice the slightest change on their behavior and you'll know that there is something wrong.Owners who knows how a healthy dog acts, feels, and smells like can spot differences in behavior and determine whether a trip to the veterinarian is necessary. Usually if you notice changes from Odor, Coat & skin, behavior changes, urine changes and change on amount in food intake there's definitely wrong with your dog.Early detection can save your dog.
My dog's health
My family has had a dog for about ten years now. She has a hairless spot on one of her elbows. Is this harmful? It hasn't spread since she got it.
I didn't take care of my dog's health properly so he died ...
... and without me on his side. I've been carrying these sadness for over a year now. I was far away when my dog died and my mom informed me about his death after 2 weeks he died when i went home. I keep blaming myself for what happened to my baby dog. If only his mommy was around that time, this wouldn't happen. It makes me so sad to see pictures and images of dogs here in the internet. I know i can't avoid these but haaaahhhh, i miss my dog. (sigh):(
My dogs hv ticks and fleas.. how to get rid of it?
I have bathe my dogs with medicated shampoo that claims able to get rid of the ticks and fleas but yet I still found these irritating creature beneath the fur. Any methods that is efficient to get rid of this?? Please educate me. Thank you in advance!
Parvo: The Worst Virus I've Ever Known
About a month and a half ago, my life was affected more than I could have ever imagined by Parvo, or Parvovirus. Petey, my American Bulldog, was the best dog I could have ever asked for. He was my big 100 pound baby. He was the BFG, and everyone loved him. My two other dogs, both Pitbull Terriers, were his best friends. We were a big family. Then, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 he started to get sick. He was throwing up and acting sad. We were flat broke! Taking him to the vet wasn't an option, so we called around and talked to a few people and everyone said that Pepto Bismol works. So we were giving him the meds, watching him, and hoped it would get better. The next day he seemed worse. He wasn't drinking any water and he wouldn't even get close to his food. We didn't have internet so we couldn't research about it online. It was Sunday though, so even if we wanted to take him to a vet we couldn't (unless we took him to the ER Vet, which would cost thousands!). So, we did what we could... we watched him closely, and then, he started to drink water again. We were so happy! He also started moving around. Still, though, we set our alarms for 6 in the morning so we could call around...
My dog is in pain -- need advice
My soon to be 13 year old black lab seems to be having pain.A bit of history. He has bad allergies and skin problems. He takes Ketoconazole several times a year along with Simplecef. Well now he has been biting at a section of his leg but he is not yeasty. He also has arthritis and is now taking rimadyl. Before starting the Rimadyl he was biting at the same spot and the vet said it was probably from pain.I would love to take him back to the vet but I can't afford it. I have some topical lidocaine (4%) and was wondering if I could apply that. Generally if he has 2 or 3 days of not chewing the areas begin to heal and clear up on their own.Have you ever tried topical lidocaine on your dogs? Any input here? Thanks, I appreciate all the help I can get.
flea problems??
I don't know if anyone has tried this but I was at my wits end with fleas. We have 2 inside dogs . I read somewhere about placing a bowl of soapy water uinder a night light at night .I decided to give it a try. Well the bowls have fleas in it![em]thumbup[/em] I could not be more surprised! So now I keep these bowls under night lights as a preventive works great! Give your dog a vinegar rinse after his flea bath to keeps fleas at bay for 2 or 3 days.I also spray mine in between baths with a vinegar water solution.[em]thumbup[/em]
Juneau's losing his fur!
I am freaking out. Juneau is my Malamute with a really thick undercoat. Usual shedding this is not! I can even see his skin in a couple of places. I've never seen his skin before, EVER! It's not itchy, he hasn't scratched, it just comes out in clumps. Malamutes can shed in clumps, so that in itself is not unusual. It's being about to see his skin that's worrisome. The only thing I can think of is I decided to use a Natural product for flea and tick repellent, thinking it would be better for him. I have an appointment for the vet on Friday, my husband is away and I have no other way to get Juneau there. So I'll just worry myself crazy in the meanwhile. Has this happened to anyone else's dog? Will the fur grow back?
My Best Friend and Companion!
I got her when she was five weeks old and had been abused. She was an 'Aussie'. Her name was Casey. She lived until 14. Her sight had failed and hips not working. She couldn't climb the stairs anymore or even go down a little curb while out side. She was my protector and had a 'sense' of good and bad people. She always sensed something and let me know. I miss her dearly. There will never be another. I had her cremated and keep her on my book case in my room. And for Casey...it is never goodbye...I will see you later my dear friend.
Oh my Cookie is in trouble
and I feel sorry for her but Mum will not even listen to me, I know she made me mad last Night but now I feel sorry for her I will start with last Night....... Mum came to bed and Cookie came in the Bedroom to, well as you all know Cookie is not allowed on Mum's bed, so I am lying under Mum's bed, in my self made Bed, Cookie wants to get up on Mum's Bed and Mum says no. Well I nearly choked when Cookie climbed into mybed the one that Mum and Mel bought me, I mean I know I was under the Bed in my other Bed, but I did not give Cookie permission to lie in my Bed. I was really mad at her, I growled at her from under the Bed, then Mum tells me to shush as I was not in that bed anyway, oh yeah just great, Mum will not let her on her bed, but she is allowed in mine according to Mum, I decide to get on Mum's bed with her, Cookie comes over so Mum strokes my Tummy with one hand and strokes Cookie with the other, then[em]angry[/em] Cookie get in my bed under the Bed, now this is going to far, again Mum says leave her you are on my Bed, yeah great but Cookie could have brought her own bed I always take mine when I go, I know I have 2 but it does not mean I have to share, well I...
